About Dr. Fausel

Dr. Fausel & Vincent

The Early Years

Dr. Scott Fausel grew up in the suburbs of New York City, and had a childhood filled with pets of all kinds.  These included dogs, guinea pigs, lizards, gerbils, snakes, and more.   Similarly, he spent many hours trekking about the woods near his home to observe animals in their habitat.  He also stayed up late reading library books, often by flashlight under the sheets in order to evade detection by his parents.  Dr. Fausel’s love for all animals guided him naturally to the profession of veterinary medicine.

Education

Dr. Fausel attended Brown University in Providence, RI, where he consequently graduated with an Sc.B. with high honors in Biology and Medicine.  He relocated to the Philadelphia area in order to attend veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine.  During that time he also pursued graduate studies in Pharmacology at the Medical School.

Career

After graduation, Dr. Fausel joined a general practice in Devon, PA, There for eight years he served pet families on the Main Line of Philadelphia, both in the hospital and as a house call veterinarian.  He later moved to an emergency & specialty hospital in Newark, DE, where he served as Medical Director and practiced emergency medicine, ultrasound, and cardiology.  Finally, life called Dr. Fausel to Berks County in 2010, and he has made his home here since, serving as Medical Director of Berks Animal Emergency & Referral Center.

Home Veterinary Care

Dr. Fausel started Home Veterinary Care because he saw the need for expert, compassionate pet care in a less stressful environment than the hospital setting.  His previous experience on the Main Line showed him the benefits of more personalized, in-depth consults on patient well-being.  Through the years Dr. Fausel has developed and advanced interests in preventive care, senior pet care, and hospice (end of life care, including euthanasia and palliated natural death).  Dr. Fausel attends local and national veterinary conferences, belongs to professional organizations (including online veterinary forums), and studies veterinary journals.  As a result, he is able to stay current with all the latest veterinary knowledge in order to ensure your pet receives the best care possible.

Family

Dr. Fausel is married to Chris, who is also his veterinary nurse.  Chris has a special love for Halloween, and together they transform their yard into a spooky wonderland every October.  Dr. Fausel’s stepdaughter, Julia, is president of her sophomore class at Wyomissing High School, and enjoys playing volleyball for the school team and travel teams.  Cameron, his stepson, is a senior at Wyo, where he pitches and plays centerfield for the baseball team.  Dr. Fausel’s son, Ben, lives in Landenberg, PA, where he is a tenth grader at Avon Grove Charter School.  He enjoys computers, and hopes to study mechanical engineering.  The Fausel family has four cats (Leo, Prince, Lulu, and Rhianna), and a wacky French Bulldog named Vincent who oversees the neighborhood and all chipmunk activity from his yellow chair in the living room.

Fun

Dr. Fausel enjoys singing and playing guitar (often at Berks County Open Mic Night), home brewing beer, playing card games, tinkering with electronics and computers, and spending his time with his family.
